“Most of our fans won’t have been aware of the situation we’ve been working through behind the scenes over the last few months.
“Once we knew the CorpAcq Stadium wouldn’t be available because of the planned pitch renovation works, our focus was on finding the best possible solution for the Club. We looked at a number of different options, but I was determined that if we were asking our fans to travel away from home, it had to be for something worth making the journey for.
“That’s why I was so keen for us to play at the home of Wigan Warriors.
“This isn’t just about finding another ground to play on. It’s about showing our players, our fans and everyone connected with Salford RLFC that we still believe in where this Club is heading.
“Our fans have stood by us through some incredibly difficult periods. If we were going to ask them to travel away from home, then it had to be for something that felt special.
“Playing at one of rugby league’s great stadiums is something we should embrace. It gives our players the chance to experience that environment, gives our fans a day to look forward to and reminds everyone connected with Salford RLFC that this Club will always keep looking forward.
“I’d also like to personally thank Kris Radlinski and everyone at Wigan Warriors for the way they’ve worked with us. Relationships matter in sport, and Kris has been incredibly supportive throughout this process, both personally and professionally. We’re grateful for the professionalism, understanding and generosity Wigan have shown.
“We had a choice. We could simply have found another ground to play the game. Instead, we chose to create an occasion that reflects where we want this Club to go.
“This is about more than one game. It’s about the standards we set, the ambition we have for the future and our determination to keep moving this great Club forward.
“Seeing all our fans together behind the sticks, in a stand that I know holds some special memories, is something I can’t wait to witness. I know Salford fans will turn out in numbers to support this team. It’s just what Salford people do.”
